Maluan Bay New Town Urban Design

Xiamen, China

A scenic delta situated between mountains and the historic island city of Xiamen, the 3700 hectare MaLuan Bay area suffers from deteriorating water quality due to watershed storm water issues and poor conditions of an existing aqua-culture industry. The award winning urban design plan integrates new development on three landmark islands individually focused on health, transit oriented business and mixed-use development, and tourism facilities. Existing fishing villages and new development areas are protected by extensive natural stormwater filtration strategies and embraced by connected open space and recreation areas surrounding the bay to create a dynamic and water-focused lifestyle center for Xiamen.
